"I am not a thing — an actor, a writer — I am a person who does things — I write, I act — and I never know what I am going to do next. I think you can be imprisoned if you think of yourself as a noun." Stephen Fry, 1 Mar 2019
Following on from Stephen's Fry's quote, life in the Arts is a 'fluid' and unpredictable journey: one where you walk through doors as new opportunities present themselves. As such, my career has been rich, full and varied and it continues to grow, as do I. I don't just do one thing, I do (and have done) many. Some of that work is listed below.
Jenny completed the MA in the Practice of Voice and Singing at Guildford School of Acting and now works extensively in the industry as a voice, singing, accent and dialect coach. She also offers coaching in voice and text.
She currently teaches Voice at Guildford School of Acting on the Foundation, BA and MA courses in Acting, Actor Musicianship and Musical Theatre. Jenny is a keen researcher and continues to explore new ideas in voice, singing, vocal anatomy, voice pedagogy, accents, dialects and teaching in industry.
Jenny's freelance work has led her to assist students with monologues, singing, songs and audition preparation for Drama School as well as singing examinations. Previous students are now at (or have graduated from) GSA, Mountview, RADA, Bristol Old Vic, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, ALRA, LAMDA, RCSSD, Hurtwood House, Brit School and many more.
She also works alongside directors and MDs on plays and musicals and is available to support theatre, TV and film productions as well as actors, singers, actor musicians and musical theatre performers upon request. Many professional clients and previous students are regularly seen in Theatre, TV and Film.
Jenny is also a keen advocate in freeing the natural voice, building confidence in voice and developing effective communication and presentation skills for business. Jenny continues to support many students and clients with their own personal, vocal journeys.
Performer, Singer & Songwriter
Jenny has performed professionally as a musical theatre performer, most recently at The Royal Festival Hall in Bernstein's Mass. She has played a variety of leads in various productions (see under services).
As a singer/songwriter, Jenny works closely with Motion Audio Productions on new music projects for Film and TV.
Jenny is also often hired as a professional understudy on productions at short notice when understudies have not been available.
Although predominantly hired for teaching and coaching work, Jenny continues to expand on her performing credits. Following a break from performing in order to focus on teaching commitments and her young family, Jenny is keen to get behind the mic for future music and voice over work as well as 'tread the boards' in future productions. Watch this space for her up and coming podcast too.
Principal and Dance Teacher
Jenny’s was Principal of her own performing arts school, Dance Division (previously the Academy of Musical Theatre) for over a decade, which offered performing arts training and examinations with Trinity College London (TCL), the Royal Acacdemy of Dance (RAD) and the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) in a variety of subjects in local and rural areas of Surrey, UK. During her time as Principal, Jenny was producer, director and choroegrapher for numerous shows. Jenny is still a Registered Teacher of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) in Ballet and is an Associate Teacher of Ballet with the International Dance Teacher's Association (IDTA). Jenny still offers bespoke dance classes or one to one lessons as required.
Jenny is married to best friend, Jason, and is mum to their two boys, Jenson and Riley. She is a keen traveller, stargazer, theatre and cinema goer and enjoys eating out, traditional afternoon tea, speaking French, playing piano and guitar and spending quality time with family and friends.
